To increase the autonomy of the visually impaired or of those with limited eyesight , allowing their inclusion in a wider range of activities and improving their quality of life.

This is the goal of the researchers at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), who are creating a system composed of several geographical information modules, artificial vision and an electronic walking stick capable of giving context information and navigation support to the visually impaired.
